Volunteers Answer the Call
A number of Chapter members answered the call to help prepare the floor of the new Young Eagles area for the upcoming concrete pour. Among those were Jerry Boughner, Paul Hanson, Gene Hubbard, Gene Lenard, Gary List, Lyn Madden, Bob Osborn, Kevin Roche, Larry Rothrock, Joe Russo and Ron Schuler. Ryan and Chuck Stiles had picked up material earlier in the week and had trailered in two large loads - 9 cubic feet of sand. Gene Hubbard started out the day's work by opening up the back of the space (to make it easier for the concrete pour to be done on both sides). When Jerry got there, he surveyed the site and then set people to work laying down vapor barrier, taking down internal roof panels, unloading sand and setting up forms. He determined that we needed more sand so Larry and Paul each made a trip in their pickups to get some. Ron Schuler moved the lock from the north door to the south door as the new area will come out even with Hangar 1 and Hangar 2. Jerry Boughner arranged for the concrete pour - and he made a great choice in company for the price included the company's crew smoothing the concrete - a real back saver for our members.
This is what we started with.

After we cleaned it out

Jerry shootin grades with plenty of moral support.

The guys, spreading sand to Jerry's grade shots.

Hired out cement finishers.

Ron Schuler, breaken a sweat.

The floor is in at this point with the old roof partially removed. The young eagles must like it as they have moved in, TEMPORARILY!

A lot has been done in the months since these pictures were posted , so an update is over due. The old roof has been completely removed by Ryan and this is a under view of the new roof he installed.

Here is a picture of Jim Kennedy, master electrician and super volunteer, hard at work installing outlets for the future new lighting. also ,check out the new outlets installed on the wall and three way switch for the lights. Thanks jimmy, we wouldn't know what to do without you!

A rear door has been installed to provide ventilation and a short cut to the bathrooms.

Bi-fold doors were built and installed on the front.

This is how they fold back against the wall

Giving an unobstructed view of the activities.

Here they are closed and ready for paint. They will have a coat of white paint then the Eagle director, Jesse Clark, will have his Young Eagles paint a mural on them. Stay tuned!

This is a shot of the foam insulation that Ryan sourced and hauled in. He sliced it into two inch slabs and installed it in the ceiling and will insulate the end wall and front door also. For those that don't know, Ryan is our hangar manager and another super volunteer .Thanks Ryan !

Ok ! Here is the ceiling insulation installed . Dennis Cullum and Bob O have it all clean and ready for Saturdays Young Eagle event. Dennis and Bob are always there for ya and work tirelessly.
